Tulip Outdoor Plant Stand

The Tulip outdoor plant stand by Jamela Alawneh for Melaaura is a seamless, self-contained fiber cement form that functions as planter and stand in one, no legs, no frames, no assembly. Its wide, grounded base with a soft upward taper accommodates everything from low succulents to architectural tropicals and small trees, while its three refined finishes, Ash, Maya, and Verdigris, suit a wide range of outdoor and interior palettes. Available in three sizes, with the large standing at 90 cm tall. Made to order with built-in drainage.

Designed by Jamela Alawneh for Melaaura, the Tulip outdoor plant stand challenges the conventional logic of how plants are presented in designed outdoor spaces. Most plant stands are exactly that, stands, brackets, or frames onto which a separate pot is placed. The Tulip dispenses with this entirely. Its form is the stand. A single, seamless piece of fiber cement that rises from a broad, stable base to a gently tapered profile, it holds the plant, elevates it, and anchors the space around it without any additional scaffolding, joinery, or assembly of any kind.

Alawneh’s design thinking here is rooted in the conviction that outdoor accessories should earn their place through form rather than function alone — that a planter can be sculptural without being ornamental, structural without being heavy. The Tulip’s profile is deceptively simple: a soft upward taper that draws the eye naturally toward the planting above, creating a visual journey from ground to greenery that feels intentional and composed. It is a form that reads equally well up close, where the texture of the fiber cement rewards attention, and from a distance, where the silhouette speaks with quiet authority.

Available in three sizes — with the large version standing at an imposing 90 cm tall, the Tulip accommodates a generous range of planting styles and scales, from compact succulents and trailing botanicals to upright ornamental grasses, tropical specimens, and small architectural trees. The large format, in particular, delivers a presence typically associated with pedestal-mounted pots, but with the inherent stability, cohesion, and material integrity of a single monolithic form. Available in three considered finishes,Ash, a clean and modern cool grey; Maya, a warmer earth-toned presence; and Verdigris, a deep finish that echoes the natural patina of aged metal without imitation, the Tulip adapts readily to contemporary, transitional, and naturalistic outdoor aesthetics alike.

Constructed from fiber cement, the Tulip is built to perform permanently outdoors. It resists moisture, manages temperature extremes, and develops character over time without degrading structurally. Drainage is built in. There is nothing to add, nothing to maintain beyond the plant it holds.

Designers use the Tulip to organise terraces, define transitions between hardscape and planting, and create rhythm across a space — three in a row along a pool deck, a pair flanking a doorway, or a single large specimen anchoring a rooftop corner. It is also a natural choice for spaces that move between interior and exterior, where the same material and form can carry through from a sunroom or lobby into the garden beyond, creating a composed and continuous spatial experience.
