Comfort chair SADDLE 001
The Saddle chair by Roda, designed by Gordon Guillaumier, features a fluid horseshoe silhouette with a fully hand-woven backrest and hydro-draining cushions. Built from powder-coated aluminum, it tucks neatly under Roda tables for smart space management.
A Shape That Does the Talking
The Saddle chair has a silhouette that reads immediately. The horseshoe curve of the seat flows directly into the arms without a break, forming one continuous line. There are no awkward joints, no visual interruptions. It is a clean, considered shape that feels both relaxed and intentional — the kind of design that looks right from every angle.
How It Is Built
The frame is powder-coated aluminum, so it handles outdoor conditions without issue. What makes the chair visually distinct is the backrest — entirely hand-woven with a dense 3mm cord pattern in polyester or acrylic. The weaving wraps the inner structure completely, concealing it. The result is a chair that feels soft in appearance even before you sit in it.
The cord comes in a wide range of colors, from neutral tones like Grey, Sand, and Stone to richer options like Tobacco, Teal, and Blue. For those drawn to sustainable materials, several recycled cord options are available. The metal frame finishes in Smoke or Milk, both understated and versatile.
Comfort, Properly Considered
Gordon Guillaumier approached comfort here with some restraint — and it works. The seat and back cushions complete the ergonomics without making the chair feel bulky. Cushion covers are available across a broad fabric selection, from Allegro to Shore. And because the cushions are hydro-draining, water does not sit and accumulate — a practical detail that matters in an outdoor setting.
Where It Belongs
The Saddle chair was designed specifically to slide under Roda tables when not in use. That is not a minor detail. In outdoor dining areas, terraces, or any space where tidiness matters, a chair that stores itself cleanly under the table is genuinely useful. It keeps the space looking composed even between meals or gatherings.
At 23 5/8 inches wide and 22 7/8 inches deep, with a seat height of 15 3/8 inches (17 3/4 inches with cushion), the proportions are compact without feeling small. The arm height sits at 25 5/8 inches, which works well at a standard dining table. It fits a range of outdoor settings — from a covered terrace to a pool-adjacent dining setup.
Built to Last Outdoors
Powder-coated aluminum does not rust. The cord materials — whether standard polyester or recycled — are selected for resilience in outdoor use. But durability here is not just about the materials holding up. It is about the chair maintaining its look over time. The hand-woven backrest stays taut, the frame keeps its finish, and the overall presence of the piece does not diminish with use. That is what makes it a considered investment rather than a seasonal purchase.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
