Planter CORTICA 001
The Roda Cortica Planter is crafted entirely from natural cork — bound with plant-based resins and finished with high-temperature steam. Compact, tactile, and quietly distinctive.
A Material That Does the Talking
The Cortica Planter from Roda doesn’t rely on decoration. It relies on material. The entire piece is made from cork — natural cork particles bound together with resins derived from the plant itself, then treated with high-temperature water vapour. That process gives it a density and finish that feels considered rather than raw. It looks simple. But it isn’t.
Built From One Thing, Built Well
There’s something honest about a product made from a single material. No metal frame hidden underneath, no upholstery covering a cheaper core. The structure is cork, the surface is cork, and that consistency is part of what makes it work. Cork is naturally resilient — it compresses and recovers, handles everyday use without showing it, and doesn’t need much maintenance to stay looking right.
The Feel of It
Sitting on cork is a different experience than sitting on wood or stone. It has a slight give to it. Not soft exactly, but not hard either. At this scale — 19¾ inches in every direction — the Cortica works as an occasional seat, somewhere to perch rather than settle in for hours. It’s the kind of piece people tend to reach for without thinking about it.
Where It Fits
The cube format and the warm brown tone of the cork make it easy to place. It works next to a sofa as a side table, at the end of a bed, in an entryway, or grouped in pairs or threes in a more open space. And because it’s compact and solid, it moves around easily. It doesn’t commit a room to a layout the way larger furniture does. That flexibility is worth something.
How It Holds Up
Cork is a naturally durable material. It resists moisture, it doesn’t warp, and the colour stays stable over time. The Roda Cortica isn’t trying to look like it belongs in a museum — it’s built to be used. But it ages well. The texture might soften slightly with time, which tends to make it look better rather than worse. That’s the kind of longevity that actually matters.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
