Rafael Octagonal Table

Paola Navone rarely takes the obvious route, and the Rafael dining table is a good example: instead of the expected round or rectangle, an octagon. At 160 x 160 cm it seats eight, with the angled sides giving every place setting its own defined edge — more sociable than a rectangle, more ordered than a circle.

The table is built in FSC-certified teak, offered in two finishes. Brushed teak (T1S) keeps the timber’s warmth while raising the grain for a more tactile surface; pickled teak (T5) arrives at a soft weathered grey.

A centre inset can be specified in Statuary marble or enamelled lava stone in Smeraldo — a deep green that reads almost black in shade and turns emerald in full sun. Either treatment turns the middle of the table into a serving surface distinct from the timber around it.

At 160 kg it is a serious piece of furniture. Paola Navone designed Rafael for Ethimo around exactly that kind of substance, pairing hand-finished teak with natural stone in a way that feels closer to a piece of joinery than a garden table.
