Planter BARRIQUE 003

The Barrique planter by Roda is a handcrafted outdoor planter blending Iroko wood with woven cord and belt detailing. Available in three sizes with narrow or wide slats, it offers a wide range of color combinations to suit any outdoor setting.

A Different Kind of Planter

The Barrique planter does something most outdoor planters don’t bother with — it treats structure and decoration as a single idea. Designed by UnPIZZO for Roda, it takes wood and wraps it in handcrafted cord and belt work, turning a functional garden object into something worth looking at. It doesn’t try to disappear into the background. And it doesn’t need to.

Materials and Build

The structure is built from Iroko wood, a hardwood that holds up well outdoors without losing its character. Around it, either polyester or acrylic cord (3mm) and 45mm belts are woven or wrapped depending on the configuration. The slats can be narrow or wide, and the belt and twine details change the overall feel significantly — one version reads more structured, the other a bit more relaxed. Both are finished with care.

The cord and belt options come in a wide range of colors — grey, sand, brown, tobacco, olive, blue, orange, sky, and more. There’s also a recycled material line covering tones like stone, clay, mint, teal, and rose. Solid color, tone-on-tone, or two contrasting colors: the combinations are genuinely flexible, so it works with a lot of different outdoor palettes.

Design Language

Barrique sits clearly within Roda’s formal design language — clean proportions, honest materials, details that are visible but not overdone. The handcrafted quality shows in the wrapping and the way the wood and textile elements meet. But it never feels rustic or rough. It’s considered work, not decorative noise.

The circular form — roughly 30 and three-quarter inches in diameter and just under 25 inches tall — is compact enough to work in smaller spaces but has enough presence to anchor a larger terrace or garden corner.

Placement and Use

Barrique works well as a standalone piece or grouped in sets of two or three. On a terrace, beside a pool, or framing an entryway — it adapts without much effort. The color options mean it can match existing furniture or stand apart as an accent. It’s a planter, but it pulls some of the same visual weight as the furniture around it.

Because it comes in three sizes, there’s room to work with different plant scales. A large tropical plant, a small olive tree, a cluster of herbs — the proportions hold up across a range of uses.

Built to Last Outdoors

Iroko is known for its resilience in outdoor conditions. The polyester and acrylic cords and belts are similarly suited for exposure to sun and moisture. This isn’t a piece that needs to be stored away at the end of summer. It’s made to stay outside and age reasonably well doing it. The Barrique planter is a practical object — but one that was clearly designed with some real attention.
