Planter BARRIQUE 002

The Barrique planter by Roda blends Iroko wood with hand-wrapped cords and belts in a wide range of colors. Available in multiple sizes with narrow or wide slats, it brings an artisan, sculptural quality to any outdoor setting.

A Different Kind of Planter

The Barrique planter does not try to disappear into the background. It has a presence. The design by UnPIZZO treats structure and decoration as one continuous idea — the wood is not just holding things together, it is part of the visual language. Narrow or wide slats, wrapped with cords or belts, give each piece a handcrafted quality that feels considered rather than decorative for its own sake.

Materials and Construction

The structure is built in Iroko, a dense hardwood that holds up well in outdoor conditions. Around it, polyester or acrylic cords (3mm) and 45mm belts are wrapped and tied — depending on the version chosen. Both standard and recycled cord and belt options are available, which matters if sustainability is part of the brief. The combination of wood and textile-based wrapping is what makes Barrique feel different from a standard garden planter.

Finish options are broad. The wood comes in a natural finish. The belts and cords are available in a solid color, tone-on-tone, or two contrasting colors pulled from Roda’s full catalogue — grey, sand, brown, tobacco, olive, blue, orange, sky, and through the recycled range: stone, clay, mint, teal, and rose. That is a serious number of combinations, which makes it easy to match an existing outdoor scheme or build something new around it.

Scale and Proportion

This particular size measures roughly 24 and three-quarter inches in diameter and just over 20 inches tall. It is compact enough to sit on a terrace or beside a lounge chair without crowding the space, but substantial enough to hold a meaningful plant. And because Barrique is available in three sizes, it is easy to create a grouped arrangement without everything feeling identical.

Where It Works

Barrique is an outdoor piece, but it reads well in covered spaces too — a loggia, a sheltered courtyard, a rooftop with some protection. The natural Iroko and the wrapped detailing give it enough warmth to work alongside both natural stone and more contemporary surfaces. It does not need much around it. A single well-chosen plant, the right color cord, and it holds its own.

For hospitality projects, the color range is a real advantage. It allows designers to tie the planter back to a specific palette without custom work. For residential use, it offers the kind of detail that rewards a closer look — something that feels personal rather than off-the-shelf.

Built to Last Outside

Iroko is chosen for a reason. It is a hardwood that resists moisture and outdoor wear without demanding constant maintenance. The polyester and acrylic wrapping materials are similarly chosen for durability in sun and rain. Barrique is not a seasonal piece to be packed away. It is meant to stay outside and improve with a little age.
