Lounge chair STRESA 011
The Stresa lounge chair by Roda, designed by Piero Lissoni, is a powder-coated aluminum outdoor chair with hydro-draining cushions. Clean lines, a perforated diamond-pattern backrest, and a compact frame make it a refined choice for outdoor living spaces.
A Design That Doesn’t Try Too Hard
Piero Lissoni designed Stresa around restraint. The lounge chair has clean, balanced proportions — nothing excessive, nothing missing. The perforated backrest with its small diamond pattern is the one detail that stands out, giving the piece a visual lightness that reads well from a distance and up close. It’s a subtle move, but it defines the chair’s character across the entire collection.
Built From Aluminum, Built to Last Outside
The frame is powder-coated aluminum throughout. That means it’s light enough to move around easily but strong enough to handle years of outdoor exposure. Aluminum doesn’t rust, and the powder coating holds up against sun and moisture without much fuss. It’s also fully recyclable, which matters more and more when you’re investing in outdoor furniture that’s meant to stay.
Comfort With Practical Sense
The seat height sits at about 13 and 3/8 inches, rising to just under 16 inches with the cushion in place. The cushions themselves are hydro-draining — water moves through rather than sitting in the fabric, so the chair dries quickly after rain. The arm height lands at 22 and 1/8 inches, which keeps the proportions relaxed without feeling too low. And the overall depth of 27 and a half inches gives you enough room to actually settle in.
Fabric options across the Stresa collection are extensive — from Allegro and Bouquet to Oxford and Shore — so the cushion cover can be matched to the space rather than worked around it. The slatted base supports the cushion while keeping airflow underneath, which extends the life of both cushion and cover.
Where It Works Best
Roda designed Stresa to move between different settings without losing anything. It works in a private garden, on a hotel terrace, in a Mediterranean courtyard, or inside a well-lit urban apartment. The proportions are compact — 25 and a quarter inches wide by 27 and a half inches deep — so it fits comfortably even where space is limited. But it also scales up well when grouped with other pieces from the collection: sofas, dining chairs, coffee tables, and the pouf in single or double format.
The smoke finish on the metal structure pairs with gres table tops available in sand, mole, or lead. For those who want something a bit more graphic, wavy glass tops come in fern, navy, and paprika. There’s enough variety to build a coherent outdoor setup without everything looking like it came out of a catalog.
Longevity Is Part of the Brief
Aluminum doesn’t need seasonal treatment. The powder coat protects the structure, the hydro-draining cushions recover quickly from weather, and the gres surfaces resist wear without demanding much maintenance. The Stresa lounge chair isn’t fragile. It’s made to be used outdoors, season after season, and still look like it belongs there.
