Designed by Jamela Alawneh for Melaaura, the Portofino sofa set small is a modular outdoor sectional that challenges the assumption that a compact configuration must make concessions, in comfort, in presence, or in the quality of the outdoor living experience it delivers. It does not. What it offers instead is something that larger configurations cannot always achieve: intimacy. A formation that draws people together rather than distributing them across an expanse, that makes conversation feel natural and the space feel genuinely inhabited rather than merely furnished.

The set is built on the modular logic of the Portofino collection, where corner units, straight sections, and a low coffee table combine into a cohesive L-shaped composition that reads as a single, resolved object rather than a set of assembled parts. Hand-woven synthetic cord is wound over powder-coated aluminium frames throughout, in the same dense, interlocking weave that defines every individual piece in the collection. The cord runs unbroken across each module, giving the assembled set a surface unity and visual coherence that weaker sectional systems — where joins and transitions betray the modularity,cannot match. The weave shifts with outdoor light across the hours of the day, textured and warm in morning sun, quieter and deeper in afternoon shade, lending the full composition a visual richness that flat or moulded surfaces simply cannot replicate.

The finish throughout is the collection’s signature warm greige, matte in depth, sun-resistant in composition, and entirely at home in the open air without ever reading as utilitarian. The braided crown edge that runs the full length of the backrest across each module is the detail that holds the composition together: a continuous line of artisanal precision that gives the set a sense of unity and finish that rewards both the immediate glance and the closer look. The low seat height and deep cushion platform are calibrated for proper, unhurried lounging — not the half-rested, slightly upright posture of furniture that hedges between dining and relaxing, but a genuine invitation to settle in and stay. The broad, solid arms provide structural definition and a natural surface for a glass, a book, or an unhurried evening.
