Two-seater right module PHILIA 202

The Philia outdoor sofa by Roda, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, combines FSC-certified teak and Batyline in a modular system. Reclining backrests, hydro-draining cushions, and a wide upholstery range make it a refined choice for gardens and terraces.

A Design That Does More Than Look Good

Rodolfo Dordoni designed Philia around a simple but smart idea: the perimeter frame works as both a structural support and a surface. Backrests alternate with flat sections that double as tabletops, so the sofa becomes part of the conversation — literally. It is a modular outdoor sofa system, but it never feels clinical or over-engineered. The proportions are calm, the profiles clean, and the overall shape sits comfortably in its surroundings without demanding attention.

Materials Built for the Outdoors

The structure is FSC-certified teak — the same material used in yacht decking, which is no coincidence. Roda chose the carabottino grating format specifically because it handles exposure well and carries a certain understated character. The feet are powder-coated stainless steel in a smoke finish, and the support system uses Batyline, a technical mesh that holds up over time without losing shape. These are materials selected with outdoor conditions in mind, not just aesthetics.

The Batyline and belt supports come in multiple colorways — grey, sand, brown, olive, navy, ginger, sky — giving real flexibility when it comes to customization. The upholstery fabric range is broad, covering collections like Oxford, Medley, Loom, Duna, and Riva, among others.

Comfort You Can Actually Adjust

The backrests and armrests are lightly padded and recline in three positions. And the armrest does double duty — it can also function as a backrest or headrest depending on how you want to sit or stretch out. The seat height sits at 20 cm, rising to 35 cm with the cushions in place. Those cushions are hydro-draining, meaning water moves through rather than pooling — a detail that matters more than it sounds when you are leaving furniture outside through changing weather.

The result is a system that adapts to how people actually use outdoor furniture. Not just upright and formal, but reclined, sideways, stretched out. Philia handles all of it.

Where It Belongs

Philia is designed for gardens and terraces where people gather and stay a while. The modular format means it can scale from a compact seating arrangement to a more generous configuration — including a double chaise longue version for larger spaces. But even in a smaller setup, it carries enough presence to anchor an outdoor area without crowding it. It works well in both curated garden settings and more relaxed terrace environments.

Built to Last Outside

Teak is one of the more resilient woods available for outdoor use. It weathers slowly and maintains its structure across seasons. Combined with the Batyline support and stainless steel feet, the Philia sofa system is put together to handle years of outdoor exposure. The wide finish and fabric selection means it can be configured once and live with that choice for a long time — without looking dated or worn before its time.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
