Choosing an outdoor daybed

An outdoor daybed is the piece that turns a pool deck or terrace into somewhere you actually spend the afternoon. It is wider and deeper than a chaise lounge, usually big enough for two, and often comes with a canopy or shade panel. In Los Angeles, where a pool deck is used for most of the year, it is one of the most-used pieces of outdoor furniture we sell.

Our daybeds come from European makers who build specifically for outdoor use: Ethimo, Manutti, Gandia Blasco, Gervasoni, Séora, Roda and Melaaura. The collection covers canopy daybeds, low platform designs and double daybeds, in teak, powder-coated aluminium and woven outdoor fibre, with cushions in outdoor fabrics made to dry quickly and resist UV fading.

Size and placement

Measure the space before anything else. Outdoor daybeds are longer and wider than a twin bed, and double versions take up as much floor as a small sofa. Leave at least 24 inches around the daybed so people can walk past and reach the cushions. A canopy adds height, so check overhangs and the view from the house. Canopy or open

A canopy or shade panel makes a daybed usable in the middle of the day without a separate umbrella.
