One-seater right chaise longue PHILIA 402

The Philia outdoor sofa by Roda, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, combines FSC-certified teak framing with Batyline support and hydro-draining cushions. Modular, reclinable, and built for garden or terrace living, it measures 65.5″ wide by 45.25″” deep with a cushioned seat height of 13.75″”.”

A Design Built Around How People Actually Sit

Rodolfo Dordoni designed Philia around a simple idea: the frame should do more than hold things together. The perimeter structure doubles as a tabletop surface, running alongside the seating so that the line between sofa and side table becomes intentionally blurred. It is a practical detail that feels considered rather than clever.

The backrests and armrests are lightly padded and recline in three positions. The armrest can shift into a backrest or headrest depending on the moment. That kind of quiet versatility is what makes Philia feel less like a set piece and more like furniture that adapts to real use.

Materials That Earn Their Place Outdoors

The structure is built from FSC-certified teak — the same wood traditionally used in yacht decking, here shaped into a carabottino grating that forms the visual and structural core of the piece. It runs from the coffee table through the seating modules and into the double chaise longue format. Powder-coated stainless steel feet in a smoke finish keep the base grounded without drawing attention to itself.

The support system uses Batyline, a technical mesh material well suited to outdoor conditions. Cushions are hydro-draining, meaning water moves through rather than sitting in the fabric. Both choices reflect the kind of material decisions that matter more over time than they do on day one.

Comfort That Holds Up Over a Long Afternoon

The seated height with cushion sits at 13.75 inches — low and relaxed, the kind of position that encourages staying put. The soft outdoor cushions come in a wide selection of fabrics and cover options, from Allegro and Oxford to Duna and Riva, across a full range of tones including grey, sand, olive, navy, blue, and ginger among others. And because the Batyline and belt supports are also available in multiple colorways, there is real room to configure the piece around a specific palette.

Where It Belongs

Philia is made for gardens and terraces. The modular format means it can scale from an intimate corner seating arrangement to something more generous that anchors a larger outdoor space. At 65.5 inches wide and 45.25 inches deep, a single module already has presence. But the system is designed to grow, and it does so without looking like it was assembled from separate pieces.

Roda built this collection around the idea of conviviality — furniture that supports how people gather outside, not just how it photographs. The teak frame, the integrated table surface, the reclining positions: all of it points back to that intention.

Built to Stay Outside

Teak weathers well. Batyline holds its shape. The hydro-draining cushions do not need to be pulled inside every time the weather shifts. Philia is not precious about being outdoors, which is exactly the point. It is the kind of piece that gets used consistently across seasons and looks the better for it.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
