Portofino 2.5-Seater Sofa

Designed by Jamela Alawneh for Melaaura, the Portofino 2.5-seater sofa is the piece around which the Portofino collection and any terrace it inhabits, naturally organises itself. The 2.5-seater occupies a particular and valuable position in the grammar of outdoor seating: wide enough for three at a push, generous enough for two in genuine comfort, and proportioned in a way that gives a terrace composition its centre of gravity without dominating it. It is the piece that tells the rest of the arrangement where to stand.

The construction follows the logic that defines the entire Portofino collection: continuous lengths of synthetic cord are hand-wound over a powder-coated aluminium frame in a dense, interlocking weave that runs unbroken across the body, arms, and base of the sofa. This material continuity is central to the piece’s character, it reads not as a frame with material applied to it, but as a single, resolved object whose surface is the structure and whose structure is the surface. The weave catches and shifts with outdoor light across the hours of the day, textured and warm in morning sun, quieter and deeper in afternoon shade, lending the sofa a visual richness and dimensionality that painted or moulded surfaces cannot replicate. The cord is engineered to resist UV degradation, moisture, and the sustained demands of outdoor use without losing tension, tone, or structural integrity across seasons.

The arms are broad and low, the seat deep, the backrest angled just enough to encourage the posture that belongs to long outdoor evenings , neither upright nor fully reclined, but settled and unhurried in the way that good outdoor furniture invites and bad outdoor furniture merely permits. The braided crown and arm edge details introduce moments of artisanal precision that hold the entire form together and speak quietly to the care behind the making, without announcing themselves or interrupting the overall restraint of the design.

The finish throughout is the collection’s signature warm greige, matte, sun-resistant, and possessed of a natural depth that deepens rather than fades with sustained light exposure. Fitted with tailored cushions in Melaaura’s range of all-weather outdoor fabrics, the sofa moves from structural object to complete sensory experience, with woven texture, soft upholstery, and open air working together without hierarchy or effort.

Available in six weave colorways; Sage Green, Black, Natural Honey Teak, Ivory, Dark Brown, and Taupe, the 2.5-seater adapts readily across contemporary, naturalistic, and coastal outdoor settings.
