Cord Dining Chair

The Cord dining chair reduces the outdoor dining chair to two materials: a satin stainless steel tube bent into a continuous frame, and polyester rope woven across it.

At 58 x 55 cm in plan and 84 cm high it is upright and compact, sized to tuck under the Cord dining table. The rope back has real give, which is what makes a chair with no cushion comfortable enough for a long meal.

Groundwork Studio chose AISI 316L — marine-grade stainless with molybdenum for salt resistance. Combined with polyester rope, which does not absorb water, the chair can be left out year-round in coastal or poolside conditions.

The satin finish is deliberate. Polished steel would throw hard reflections in sun; satin diffuses them, so a set of six chairs reads calm rather than glittering.
