Rafael Back Cushion

Rafael has the most interesting fabric programme in the Ethimo range, and the back cushion is where it is easiest to see. Seven covers are offered across three quite different fabric families.

The Maria Flora acrylics — Blue, White and Taupe — are the softest and most textile-like. Rubelli Outmap Laguna is a polypropylene from the Venetian mill Rubelli, whose fabrics normally end up on interior furniture; the outdoor version keeps the pattern language while surviving weather. The Hydro polyesters in White, Grey and Acqua are the most technical of the three, with the highest water resistance.

At 45 x 45 cm with a 10 cm depth, the cushion is scaled for the deep seats across the Rafael lounge pieces — the lounge armchair, daybed and sunbed — and works as either lumbar support or simple back padding depending on placement.

Paola Navone designed Rafael for Ethimo around hand-worked teak and natural materials; the fabric choices are what keep the collection from reading as purely rustic.
