Three-seater left deck module PHILIA 303

The Philia outdoor sofa system by Roda, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, combines FSC-certified teak, Batyline, and hydro-draining cushions into a modular, reclinable seating collection built for terraces and gardens.

A Design That Does More Than Look Good

Rodolfo Dordoni approached Philia with a clear idea: a perimeter frame that works both as structural support and as an integrated tabletop surface, alternating with the seating modules. It is a smart, considered layout. The backrests and armrests are lightly padded and can recline across three positions, so the configuration shifts depending on the moment. And the armrest can double as a backrest or even a headrest — a detail that sounds small but makes a real difference in how the piece gets used.

Materials Built for the Outdoors

The structure is built around carabottino — the wooden grating traditionally used in yacht construction. Here it is rendered in FSC-certified natural teak, running through the coffee table, the seating modules, and scaling up to the double chaise longue. The feet are powder-coated stainless steel in a smoke finish. Batyline provides the support beneath the cushions, a high-performance mesh material that holds up well against sun and moisture. It is available in multiple colorways including grey, sand, olive, brown, navy, ginger, and sky.

Belt support is also available, offered across the same color range. The cushions are hydro-draining, meaning water moves through rather than sitting and soaking. It is the kind of practical engineering that tends to go unnoticed until you actually need it.

Comfort That Earns Its Place

The seat height sits at 7 7/8 inches without cushions, and rises to 13 3/4 inches with them — low and relaxed, the way outdoor seating should be. The cushions themselves are soft and well-proportioned. With the reclinable backrests and the option to reposition the armrests, Philia adapts to both upright conversation and full-on lounging. It is not trying to be one thing. That flexibility is the point.

Where It Belongs

Philia is made for gardens and terraces. The overall dimensions — 123 1/4 inches long and 45 1/4 inches deep — give it a generous footprint, suited to larger outdoor spaces where it can anchor a seating area properly. The modular nature of the system means it can be configured to fit different layouts. The wide range of upholstery fabrics, spanning collections like Allegro, Oxford, Duna, Riva, and others, makes it easy to match an existing palette or set a new one.

Built to Last Outside

Roda selected these materials deliberately. Teak is naturally resilient against weathering, and the FSC certification speaks to sourcing standards that matter. Batyline does not degrade quickly under UV exposure. The powder-coated steel feet resist corrosion. None of this is accidental. The Philia collection is designed to stay outside through seasons, not to be stored away after every use. That is what separates outdoor furniture that performs from outdoor furniture that merely looks the part.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
