Three-seater right deck module PHILIA 304
The Philia outdoor sofa system by Roda, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, combines FSC-certified teak, Batyline, and hydro-draining cushions into a modular, reclinable seating collection built for gardens and terraces. Generous in scale and refined in proportion, it adapts to how people actually live outdoors.
A Design That Does More Than Look Good
Rodolfo Dordoni approached Philia with a clear idea: the frame should work harder than a frame usually does. The perimeter structure serves as both a backrest support and a surface you can actually use — a tabletop integrated into the seating rhythm. It’s a practical move that makes the whole composition feel considered rather than complicated. Backrests and armrests recline in three positions, and the armrest doubles as a backrest or headrest depending on the moment. That kind of flexibility is built in, not added on.
The inspiration for the structure comes from carabottino — the wooden grating found on yacht decks. It gives Philia its visual signature and connects the collection across pieces, from the coffee table through to the seating and the double chaise longue.
Materials Built for the Outdoors
The structure is FSC-certified teak with powder-coated stainless steel feet in a smoke finish. Teak is the right material for this kind of piece — it handles sun, rain, and salt air without fuss. The support webbing is Batyline, a technical mesh that holds its shape and breathes well in warm weather. Both materials are chosen for performance, not just appearance.
Cushion covers are available across a wide range of outdoor fabric families, and the cushions themselves are hydro-draining — water moves through rather than sitting. The Batyline and belt supports come in multiple colorways including grey, sand, olive, brown, navy, and more, so the configuration options are genuinely broad.
Comfort That Adjusts to the Moment
The seat height without cushions sits at about 7 and 7/8 inches, rising to 13 and 3/4 inches with cushions in place. It sits low and relaxed — the kind of height that encourages you to settle in. The backrests and armrests are lightly padded, which adds comfort without making the piece feel overstuffed. And because the reclining positions change the dynamic of the seat, Philia shifts between something more upright for conversation and something more laid-back for the end of an afternoon.
Where It Belongs
Philia is designed for gardens and terraces where people spend real time. At 123 and 1/4 inches long and 45 and 1/4 inches deep, it has presence. But it’s modular, so it can be configured to fit the space and the occasion. It suits a large terrace the same way it suits a more intimate garden setting — scaled up or kept simple.
Roda built this collection around the idea of outdoor living that doesn’t compromise. It’s furniture for places where people gather, eat, talk, and stay longer than they planned.
Built to Last Outside
Teak ages well. Batyline holds up. The hydro-draining cushions are designed so that a rain shower doesn’t end the day. These are materials that were chosen with longevity in mind, not just for the way they look at launch. Philia is the kind of outdoor system that looks right after a few seasons — maybe better.
