Two-seater central chaise longue PHILIA 400

The Philia outdoor sofa system by Roda, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, combines FSC-certified teak, Batyline support, and hydro-draining cushions into a modular, reclinable seating collection built for terraces and gardens. Measuring 65.5 by 65.5 inches, it offers refined comfort and broad customization.

A Design That Does More Than Look Good

Rodolfo Dordoni approached Philia with a clear idea: the frame should do more than hold things together. The perimeter structure doubles as a surface, alternating between seating and a built-in tabletop. It’s a smart move that keeps the piece feeling open and functional without adding bulk. The proportions are balanced, the profiles clean. Nothing about it is trying too hard.

Materials Built for the Outdoors

The structure is natural teak — FSC-certified (FSC-C155819) — paired with powder-coated stainless steel feet in a smoke finish. The supporting webbing is Batyline, a material known for its resilience in outdoor conditions. Belt options come in a wide range of colors: grey, sand, brown, olive, blue, orange, and sky, among others. Batyline follows the same palette with the addition of navy and ginger. The wood carries the same character you’d find on a well-kept yacht — the carabottino grating detail is a direct reference to that world, and it shows.

Comfort That Adjusts to the Moment

The backrests and armrests are lightly padded and recline in three positions. And the armrest isn’t just an armrest — it can work as a backrest or a headrest depending on how you’re sitting. That kind of flexibility doesn’t usually come without some visual trade-off, but Philia keeps it discreet. The cushions are hydro-draining, so rain isn’t a problem. Seat height sits at about 7 and 7/8 inches, rising to 13 and 3/4 inches with the cushion in place — low enough to feel relaxed, not so low it becomes a production to get up.

Cushion covers are available across a wide fabric selection — Allegro, Bouquet, Dew, Eco, Fine, King, Loom, Medley, Oxford, Park, Point, Queen, Scala, Soft, Shore, and more — so the upholstery can be matched to nearly any outdoor palette or architectural context.

Where It Belongs

Philia is designed for gardens and terraces. It works as a corner piece, a standalone configuration, or something more generous — the system scales up to a double chaise longue. At 65 and 1/2 inches square, the base module already has presence. But it’s not a piece that dominates a space. It settles into it. Whether the setting is a rooftop in the city or a shaded garden, Roda built it to feel at home in both.

Built to Last Outdoors

Teak is one of the few woods that genuinely holds up over time when exposed to sun and moisture. Combined with Batyline webbing and hydro-draining cushions, the Philia system is put together with outdoor longevity in mind — not just as a product claim, but as a structural reality. The materials age well. The design doesn’t date itself. And that combination is harder to find than it sounds.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
