Aru Plant Pot

The Aru plant pot by Jamela Alawneh for Melaaura is a rounded, sphere-inspired fiber cement form with a wide, clean opening and no foot, frill, or ridge, pure geometry and material, nothing more. Available in three sizes, with the large reaching 90 cm wide and 60 cm tall, and three matte finishes; Ash, White, and Weathered Cement, it suits everything from statement palms and sculptural grasses to layered succulents and bonsai, indoors and out. Made to order with adaptable drainage options.

Designed by Jamela Alawneh for Melaaura, the Aru plant pot is a study in what happens when a designer removes every unnecessary element from a form and commits entirely to what remains. The result is a sphere softened at the top, cut with a wide, clean opening, no foot, no frill, no ridge, no applied ornament of any kind. Just geometry, material, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing exactly what a thing needs to be.

Alawneh’s design philosophy at Melaaura has always centred on restraint and material honesty, and the Aru is perhaps its purest expression in the planter range. The form has no front or back, no preferred orientation, it works in the round, from every angle, in every context. This quality gives it a rare spatial flexibility: it can anchor the centre of a courtyard, sit beside a low bench, float at the edge of a deck, or hold a corner in a hotel atrium with equal composure. Its roundness provides a natural counterpoint to the orthogonal lines of most built environments, introducing softness and visual relief without disrupting the overall composition.

Available in three sizes with the large version reaching an impressive 90 cm wide and 60 cm tall, Aru scales appropriately from intimate indoor corners to expansive outdoor settings. The wide opening accommodates a generous range of planting styles: sculptural grasses, statement palms, layered succulents, bonsai, and deep-rooted architectural plants all sit naturally within the bowl-shaped form, which provides both physical stability and clean, well-contained soil lines. The volume supports deep root development, while the thick fiber cement walls offer the visual mass and thermal stability that support healthy plant growth across seasons.

Three matte finish options; Ash, a cool contemporary grey; White, clean and gallery-bright; and Weathered Cement, a warmer, more organic tone that reads like aged stone give the Aru a tonal range that adapts readily across contemporary, transitional, and naturalistic design contexts. Each finish develops a natural patina over time, deepening the material character of the piece without compromising its structure or form. Used singly as a standalone anchor or grouped in ascending sizes to create gentle spatial rhythm, Aru brings the kind of considered, unhurried presence that distinguishes a truly curated space from one that is merely furnished.

Equally well suited to residential patios, poolside settings, and garden terraces as to commercial environments including hotel courtyards, restaurant gardens, office atriums, and retail interiors, the Aru is a piece that knows its role and performs it without distraction, letting the plant, and the space, take the lead.
