Solo Planter Stand

Designed by Jamela Alawneh for Melaaura, the Solo planter stand reframes what a planter stand can be. Rather than relying on a separate pedestal, legs, or a supporting structure of any kind, Solo achieves elevation through the authority of its own form, a single, unbroken piece of fiber cement, wide and grounded, that lifts greenery from the ground through mass, proportion, and the quiet confidence of something that knows exactly what it is.

Alawneh’s design draws on the language of classical urn forms, the gently flared opening, the sense of a vessel made to receive something of weight and importance and strips that language back to its essential geometry. There is no ornamentation, no applied detail, no decorative edge. What remains is a form that feels simultaneously rooted in history and entirely of the present: a vessel that complements modern architecture as naturally as it does more traditional settings, without ever appearing to try at either.

At 80 cm wide and 60 cm tall, Solo is proportioned for spatial impact. Its notably wide, low-slung profile distinguishes it from the tall and narrow planters that dominate the outdoor category, making it particularly well suited to plants with spreading canopies, multi-trunk forms, or generous ground-level foliage, Japanese maples, olive trees, ornamental grasses with real movement, layered compositions combining trailing and upright species. The generous internal volume provides ample root depth and moisture retention, while the substantial fiber cement walls offer the thermal stability and inherent weight that keep the planter firmly in place across exposed or high-traffic environments, with no need for additional anchoring.

Available in two matte finishes; Ash, a warm neutral that sits comfortably between the coolness of concrete and the softness of weathered stone, and Weathered Cement, a deeper, more characterful tone that reads as naturally aged and pairs beautifully with warm stone, dark timber, soft grasses, and naturalistic planting, both colorways are chosen to develop a graceful patina over time, becoming more themselves with each season rather than degrading. Neither finish competes with the planting above or the architecture around them; both quietly reinforce whatever spatial composition they inhabit.
