Planter BARRIQUE 001
The Barrique planter by Roda merges Iroko wood with handwoven cord and belt detailing in a compact, artisan-crafted form. Available in three sizes with narrow or wide slats, it brings a refined outdoor character to any garden or terrace setting.
A Design Built Around Materials
The Barrique planter doesn’t try to be decorative in the conventional sense. Structure and surface work as one here. The Iroko wood slats — available in narrow or wide configurations — give the piece its form, while the cord and belt wrapping adds texture and a quietly handcrafted quality. It reads as considered, not overdone.
Designed by UnPIZZO for Roda, Barrique sits within a broader formal language the brand has developed around outdoor living. The proportions are clean. The detailing is deliberate. And the overall effect is something that looks like it belongs outside without looking like typical garden furniture.
Materials and Construction
The structure is built from Iroko, a dense hardwood that holds up well in outdoor conditions. The wrapping uses polyester or acrylic cord at 3mm, or a 45mm belt — both available in standard and recycled versions. The combination of rigid wood and woven textile is what gives Barrique its character. Neither material is doing all the work.
The finish options are extensive. Belts and cords come in colours ranging from neutral tones like Grey, Sand, and Stone to warmer options like Tobacco, Clay, and Rose, plus bolder choices like Blue, Orange, and Teal. Solid colour, tone-on-tone, or two contrasting colours — the configuration is flexible enough to work across very different outdoor schemes.
Scale and Presence
This particular size sits at approximately 16 inches wide and just over 18 inches tall. It’s compact — the kind of planter that works as part of a grouping or holds its own as a standalone accent. Three sizes are available across the collection, so there’s room to scale up depending on the space and the planting.
The handcrafted character of Barrique means each piece has a slight individuality to it. That’s part of the point. It’s not trying to look machine-made or perfectly uniform.
Where It Works
Barrique fits naturally on a terrace, beside an outdoor seating area, or along a garden path. But it doesn’t need a formal setting. It works just as well on a simple balcony or at the entrance to a home. The colour range is wide enough that it can sit quietly in a neutral scheme or add a distinct accent where needed.
For anyone building out an outdoor space with Roda furniture, the Barrique planter connects to the same design thinking — natural materials, restrained detail, and pieces that earn their place rather than demand attention.
Built to Last Outside
Iroko is a practical choice for outdoor use. It’s naturally resilient to moisture and weathering, which matters when a piece is going to live outside year-round. The polyester and acrylic textile options are similarly suited to outdoor conditions. This isn’t a planter that needs to be brought inside at the first sign of rain. It’s made to stay where it’s placed.
