Armchair ERICE 011

The Erice armchair by Roda draws from Sicilian weaving traditions, translating artisanal patterns into a refined outdoor piece. Interlaced belts, cord-wrapped arms, and a powder-coated aluminum frame come together in a chair that is graphic, comfortable, and built to last outside.

A Design Rooted in Craft

The Erice armchair takes its name from a hilltop village in Sicily, and the reference goes beyond the label. Designer Luca Pevere looked at traditional Sicilian rug-making and translated its logic into furniture. The woven belts act as the weft, the aluminum frame as the warp. The result is a surface that reads differently depending on where you stand. It shifts slightly, the way a fabric does in changing light.

There is a graphic quality to the chair that feels deliberate but not loud. The pattern draws the eye without demanding attention. And the cord-wrapped arms add a tactile layer that softens the overall structure without losing the geometric clarity of the design.

Materials and Construction

The frame is powder-coated aluminum, available in Smoke or Milk finishes. It is lightweight, resistant to the elements, and holds its finish well over time. The belts — 45mm wide — come in polyester or acrylic, with a wide range of colors from neutral Sand and Grey to richer tones like Tobacco, Olive, and Orange. Recycled belt and cord options are also available for those who want to extend the sustainability of their choice.

The armrests are wrapped in 3mm cord, also available in polyester, acrylic, or recycled versions, in colors that coordinate with the belts. The attention here is in how the materials meet each other. Nothing feels mismatched or added as an afterthought.

Comfort Without Compromise

At 19 inches seat height with the cushion, the Erice sits at a comfortable, easy height. The hydro-draining cushion means water moves through rather than pooling, which matters when a chair lives outside. It is a practical detail that extends the usability of the piece across seasons and climates.

The cord-wrapped arms add more than texture. They provide a surface that feels warm to the touch, even on cooler days, which makes the chair more inviting for longer sitting. The cushion fabrics span a broad collection — from Allegro to Shore — giving plenty of room to match existing outdoor textiles or contrast them.

Where It Belongs

Erice works well on a terrace, around a dining table, or as a standalone piece on a covered patio. Its compact footprint — just over 23 inches wide and 22 inches deep — means it fits without crowding a space. But it is not a chair that disappears into its surroundings. The color and weave pattern give it presence.

It suits spaces that take outdoor living seriously. A well-considered garden, a hotel terrace, a rooftop with a view. Roda built this chair for environments where design matters as much outside as in.

Built to Stay Outside

The combination of powder-coated aluminum, weather-resistant belts, and hydro-draining cushions makes Erice genuinely suited to outdoor conditions. This is not a fair-weather piece. The materials are chosen to hold up, season after season, without requiring constant upkeep. The colors stay true. The structure stays solid. And the design holds its integrity long after the novelty has settled.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
