Armchair ERICE 001
The Erice armchair by Roda draws from Sicilian weaving traditions, reinterpreted through interlaced belts and a powder-coated aluminum frame. Cord-wrapped arms and a hydro-draining cushion bring tactile warmth and practicality to any outdoor setting.
A Design Rooted in Craft
The Erice armchair takes its name from a hilltop village in Sicily, and the reference runs deeper than the name. Designer Luca Pevere looked at traditional rug-making and translated that logic into outdoor furniture. The interlaced belts act as the weft, the metal frame as the warp. The result is a surface pattern that shifts slightly depending on where you stand. It has graphic quality without being loud about it.
Materials and Construction
The frame is powder-coated aluminum, which keeps things lightweight and resistant to the elements. The belts come in polyester or acrylic at 45mm wide, and the arms are wrapped in cord for a finish that feels deliberately handmade. Both standard and recycled belt and cord options are available across a solid range of colors, from neutral tones like Sand and Stone to more expressive choices like Orange, Teal, and Olive. The structure comes in Smoke or Milk finishes.
The cushion is hydro-draining, so water moves through rather than sitting on the surface. It is a practical detail, but an important one for a chair meant to live outside.
Comfort Where It Counts
The seat height with cushion sits at 19 inches, with arms at 26 inches. Those proportions make it easy to settle into and easy to get out of. The cord-wrapped arms add a layer of tactile comfort that bare aluminum simply does not offer. And the cushion, while removable, is very much part of how the chair feels in use. It softens the structure without hiding it.
Where It Belongs
Erice works well in outdoor spaces that have some intention behind them. A terrace with a view. A garden dining area. A poolside arrangement that is put together rather than thrown together. The chair’s scale is compact at roughly 23 by 22 inches footprint and just under 30 inches tall, so it fits without dominating. But it still reads clearly in a space, thanks to the woven pattern and the color options available.
The wide palette means it can complement a quieter, neutral scheme or introduce a deliberate accent. Either way, Roda has kept the proportions grounded so the chair does not compete with its surroundings.
Built to Last Outside
Aluminum does not rust. The powder coating adds another layer of protection against sun and weather. The belt and cord materials are selected for outdoor use, and the recycled options hold up just as well as the standard ones. This is a chair designed to stay outside season after season without requiring much from the people who own it. The cushion covers are drawn from a broad selection of outdoor fabrics, so replacing or refreshing them down the line is straightforward. The Erice armchair is made for the long run.
