Two-seater right deck module PHILIA 204
The Philia outdoor sofa system by Roda, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, combines FSC-certified teak with a modular structure inspired by yacht carabottino grating. With reclining backrests, Batyline support, and hydro-draining cushions, it is built for genuine comfort and lasting outdoor use.
A Design With Purpose
Rodolfo Dordoni designed Philia around a simple but clever idea: the perimeter frame serves double duty as both a structural support for the backrests and a built-in tabletop surface. The result is a sofa system that feels considered without being complicated. Clean profiles, balanced proportions, and a layout that adapts naturally to how people actually use outdoor spaces.
The soul of the structure is the carabottino — the wooden grating traditionally used in yacht construction. Here it runs through the entire collection, from the coffee table to the seating modules, giving Philia a consistent visual rhythm and a grounded, nautical-meets-garden character.
Materials and Build
The structure is built from FSC-certified teak with powder-coated stainless steel feet in a smoke finish. Teak is the obvious choice for serious outdoor furniture — it handles sun, rain, and salt air without losing its composure. The support system uses Batyline, a high-performance mesh material that holds its shape over time and dries quickly after rain.
At 90.5 inches long and 45.25 inches deep, this is a generous piece. It is built to anchor a space, not fill a corner.
Comfort That Actually Works
The backrests and armrests are lightly padded and recline in three positions. That range matters more than it sounds — it means the same sofa works for a straight-backed lunch, a relaxed afternoon conversation, or a near-horizontal afternoon rest. And the armrest doubles as a backrest or headrest depending on how you position yourself. Practical versatility, without over-engineering it.
The cushions are hydro-draining, so they do not hold water after a shower or a splash. The seat height sits at roughly 7.75 inches from the ground, rising to about 13.75 inches with the cushion in place — low and lounge-oriented, the way good outdoor seating should feel.
Where It Belongs
Philia is made for gardens, terraces, and pool decks where people actually spend time. Not a decorative piece. A place to sit, eat, talk, and stay longer than planned. The modular nature of the system means it can be configured for an intimate terrace or a larger outdoor living room, scaling up or down without losing coherence.
The upholstery cover options are extensive — fabrics like Allegro, Oxford, Duna, and Riva, among others — with Batyline and belt supports available in shades ranging from grey and sand to navy, olive, and ginger. There is enough range to match almost any outdoor palette without forcing a compromise.
Built to Last
Roda built Philia with longevity in mind. FSC-certified teak ages well and requires minimal intervention. The Batyline support resists UV exposure and moisture. The powder-coated steel feet resist corrosion. But beyond the material specs, it is the overall coherence of the design that makes Philia hold up — not just physically, but visually, season after season.
