Two-seater sofa module PHILIA 210

The Philia outdoor sofa by Roda, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, combines FSC-certified teak and Batyline supports with a modular, reclinable structure. At 90.5\” x 45.25\”, it offers hydro-draining cushions and a wide upholstery palette for refined outdoor living.

A Design That Does More Than Look Good

Rodolfo Dordoni designed Philia around a simple but smart idea: the perimeter frame serves double duty as both a structural support for the backrests and as a surface for drinks, books, or whatever the moment calls for. It alternates between seating and tabletop in a way that feels intuitive rather than gimmicky. The proportions are balanced, the profiles clean. Nothing here is trying too hard.

Materials Built for the Outdoors

The structure is FSC-certified teak — the same material used in yacht decking, specifically the carabottino grating pattern that gives Philia its distinctive character. It runs consistently from the coffee table through to the seating modules. Powder-coated stainless steel feet handle the contact with ground-level elements, and Batyline supports sit beneath the cushions, keeping airflow moving and moisture from collecting. The cushions themselves are hydro-draining, so after rain they recover quickly and hold their shape.Support belts are available in Grey, Sand, Brown, Olive, Blue, Orange, and Sky. Batyline options mirror many of those tones, adding Navy and Ginger to the mix. The upholstery selection across both fabric families is broad — more than twenty options covering everything from textured weaves to softer, more tailored finishes.

Comfort That Adapts

The backrests and armrests are lightly padded and recline in three positions. And the armrests aren’t locked into one role — they can function as a backrest or headrest depending on how someone wants to settle in. It’s a practical kind of flexibility, not an overengineered one. With the cushions in place, the seat height reaches 13.75 inches — low and relaxed, the kind of seating that encourages staying a while.

Where It Belongs

Philia works best where outdoor living is taken seriously — a generous terrace, a landscaped garden, a poolside setup with room to spread out. At 90.5 inches long and 45.25 inches deep, it has real presence without overwhelming a space. Roda built this as a modular system, so it can scale from an intimate two-seat configuration up to a double chaise longue format depending on the setting and how the modules are arranged.

The wide range of upholstery colors means it can sit quietly against natural surroundings or take on a more deliberate palette. Neither choice feels forced.

How It Holds Up Over Time

Teak is naturally resilient. It handles sun, humidity, and seasonal shifts without demanding constant attention. The Batyline and belt supports are designed for outdoor use and don’t degrade quickly under UV exposure. But beyond the materials, the structure itself is built to stay relevant — the design is restrained enough that it doesn’t date, and the modular format means individual elements can be reconfigured as needs change. Philia is the kind of outdoor furniture that earns its place over several seasons, not just one.

Nordic design inspires HAY's taste for clean lines, simple geometric shapes, and quality materials like wood, metal, and textiles. Anyway, you still use Lorem Ipsum and rightly so, as it will always have a place in the web workers toolbox.
