Choosing an outdoor lounge chair

A pair of lounge chairs with a side table is often the right answer for a smaller terrace, a balcony or a corner of the garden, and on a larger patio they add flexible seating around a sofa. Comfort varies a lot between designs, so it is worth sitting in a few before you choose.

Our outdoor lounge chairs come from Gandia Blasco, Ethimo, Roda, Atmosphera, Manutti, Gervasoni, Tuuci and Rugiano, in teak, aluminium, rope and woven outdoor fibre.

What to look for

Seat height and depth decide how a chair feels. Low, deep chairs are made for reclining with a book; higher, shallower seats are easier to get in and out of and suit conversation. Check the arm height if the chair will sit next to a side table, and whether the cushions are removable for storage. Rope and woven chairs feel lighter visually; teak and upholstered pieces feel more like indoor furniture.
